The Barabar Caves, situated in Jehanabad, Bihar, are regarded as India’s most ancient rock-cut caves, dating back to the 3rd century BCE during the reign of Emperor Ashoka of the Mauryan dynasty. Carved out of solid granite, these caves were primarily used by Ajivika monks, an ancient ascetic sect. They are renowned for their exceptionally polished interiors, distinctive echo effects, and profound spiritual relevance.
